What the agreement covers

The template has the parts most small businesses need when they hire help for a defined job: what the contractor will do, how much and when they are paid, how either side can end the arrangement, who owns the finished work, what must stay confidential, and which state's law applies. Every clause is plain English and editable before you download.

A note on taxes and classification

Businesses typically ask an independent contractor for a Form W-9 and typically report payments on Form 1099-NEC once they reach the reporting threshold. That is general information, not tax advice. Whether a worker is truly an independent contractor depends on the facts of the working relationship and on federal and state rules, not on the title in the agreement. Ask a qualified tax professional or attorney about your situation.

Using it for a cleaner, a stylist or a freelancer

Describe the work in the scope field the way you would explain it to the person: where, how often and what is included. Put the rate in the compensation field, such as an hourly rate or a price per job. If the contractor will use your name or work with your customers, a subcontractor or service agreement may fit better.

Build it in four steps

  1. Enter the parties. Your business and the contractor.
  2. Describe the work and pay. Scope, rate and payment window.
  3. Choose your state. It fills the governing-law clause only.
  4. Read the preview. Edit any clause, then download when downloads open.

Questions and answers

Do I need a contract for a 1099 contractor?

No law makes a written contract the only way to hire a contractor, but a written agreement helps both sides understand the scope, pay and who owns the work. It does not by itself decide whether someone is a contractor or an employee, which depends on the facts. Consult a licensed attorney or tax professional in your state.

Independent contractor agreement template for cleaner: what should it say?

Describe the cleaning services and locations, the rate, who supplies products and equipment, how payment is made, that the cleaner sets their own methods, and that the cleaner is responsible for their own taxes and insurance. This template covers those points; fill in the scope field with the specifics.

Does it make the person a contractor?

No. The label in the document does not decide classification. Courts and agencies look at the real working relationship.

Can I edit the agreement?

Yes. Turn on Edit any clause in the preview and change any paragraph. Your edits stay on your device.
